For a London MVP shortlist, distinguish a published London address from a London-facing service and from a regional alternative. Fourmeta, GoodCore, Stakk, The Distance and One Beyond publish London-area locations; thoughtbot has a London service page. None of those signals proves where your assigned team works. Confirm the people and meeting arrangements before choosing.
Publisher disclosure: MVP Build is published by Wall & Fifth. This is an affiliated editorial shortlist, not an independent performance ranking. We do not assign stars or claim to have tested these suppliers.
What counts as a London agency here?#
Searching for a London developer can express several needs: face-to-face workshops, similar working hours, knowledge of a local customer market or simply a convenient commercial relationship. Decide which you actually need. A registered or marketing address cannot establish all of them.
This page focuses on location evidence and collaboration. The UK comparison covers broader capability and buying-model questions. The suppliers below are listed alphabetically and have different types of London signal; those signals are not performance ratings.
| Supplier | Location signal | What remains to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Fourmeta | Published Mayfair address | Who attends workshops and who delivers the work |
| GoodCore | Published Airport House address in Croydon | Meeting arrangements and assigned team locations |
| One Beyond | London office; Farnborough head office | Which office and people support this engagement |
| Stakk | Published Lombard Street address | Workshop access and mobile delivery team |
| The Distance | Published London and York addresses | Which location handles discovery and delivery |
| thoughtbot | London-facing service page | Current local presence and proposed collaboration model |
Match the local shortlist to the work#
Fourmeta and GoodCore: investigate the scope of discovery and design before scheduling a workshop. Arrive with the problem, research and decisions you need to make. Ask for an agenda and concrete outputs rather than an open-ended “ideation day”.
One Beyond: its SME service page includes software and operational work. Ask how a first release will be bounded if your brief includes existing systems or data. A workshop should separate the initial usable outcome from a much larger transformation programme.
Stakk and The Distance: investigate mobile requirements using the actual devices and workflows where possible. Confirm backend and operating scope alongside the interface. A local session is useful when it reveals a difficult physical or device interaction, rather than merely repeating a video call in a room.
thoughtbot: use its London-facing service as a starting contact point and ask how the proposed people collaborate with your team. Clarify whether knowledge transfer, embedded delivery and technical leadership form part of the engagement.
These are our suggested investigation questions. We have not observed these companies conducting workshops or independently compared their delivery. Their source pages establish the published offerings and location signals, not the result you will receive.
Keep regional alternatives accurately labelled#
Code23 publishes a Theale/Reading location, so it should be described as a regional alternative for a London buyer, not silently presented as a London office. If travel is acceptable, ask how often meetings would occur and how travel time is charged.
Wall & Fifth is the affiliated publisher of MVP Build. Its cited MVP service page does not establish a London office. Confirm meeting availability directly rather than inferring a local team from its presence in this publication.
There may be good reasons to consider teams outside London. The relevant comparison is the actual working arrangement: access to the responsible people, response times, delivery evidence and a manageable collaboration process. Geography is one input, not a proxy for quality.
Make an in-person workshop earn its cost#
| Activity | Input | Usable output |
|---|---|---|
| Map the current process | A real example with sensitive details removed | A shared picture of the existing problem |
| Choose the first outcome | User evidence and business constraints | One release goal with exclusions |
| Walk through failures | Cancellation, payment or integration examples | Acceptance cases and operator responsibilities |
| Resolve dependencies | Access owners and available documentation | A dependency list with dates and decision owners |
| Agree the next step | Unresolved assumptions | A discovery or delivery proposal with clear questions |
Ask who attends and whether the people who will build the product are involved. A senior sales attendee may be helpful, but does not replace implementation knowledge. Request a written decision record and ensure a remote colleague can contribute if they own a critical part of the process.
A workshop is optional when the problem and team can be coordinated well remotely. Do not pay for local presence as a ritual. Use it when observing a physical environment, testing a device or bringing decision-makers together improves the work.
Confirm the working arrangement before the kickoff#
- The named delivery team’s locations and working-hour overlap.
- Which meetings are remote, onsite or at the supplier’s office.
- Travel costs, room costs and whether travel consumes delivery capacity.
- Who can make product decisions during a session.
- How decisions and changes are recorded for absent team members.
- How urgent issues reach the responsible person between meetings.
Also confirm the contracting entity and relevant data-handling arrangements through the actual proposal. A London address does not answer where every service provider or subcontractor operates. Avoid replacing those questions with assumptions about a postcode.
Send the same brief to the teams you shortlist, then use the worksheet below to compare evidence and unresolved questions. Compare budget and scope with the MVP cost guide; do not infer a universal London premium from a few advertised prices.
Put this guide to work#
Frequently asked questions#
Does a London office mean the developers are based in London?
No. It establishes a published location claim, not the staffing of your project. Ask where the proposed people work, how available they are and who attends local sessions. Put important meeting expectations in the proposal.
Is Croydon included in this London shortlist?
Yes, and it is labelled explicitly. GoodCore publishes a Croydon address. If central-London access matters, compare the actual meeting location and travel rather than treating every London-area address as equally convenient.
Why is Code23 labelled a regional alternative?
Its official site publishes a Theale/Reading location. It may still be relevant to a London buyer, but the evidence does not justify calling that a London office. The distinction helps readers make an informed location choice.
Do London agencies always cost more?
The evidence reviewed here does not establish that. Compare matched scope, named teams and commercial terms. Office location alone cannot explain a quote, and a small set of advertised offers is not a representative price study.
Can I work with a London agency entirely remotely?
Ask about the proposed engagement. A supplier may support remote or mixed working, but confirm meeting cadence, communication and acceptance arrangements rather than assuming them from the address. Choose the setup that supports the actual work.
Which questions should I bring to the first meeting?
Bring the first user journey, evidence of the problem, budget constraints, dependencies and the decisions you need help making. Ask who would deliver the work, what they would defer and what would make the estimate change. Leave with a recorded next step and owner.
Sources and methodology#
Official service and location pages were checked on 16 October 2026. Location labels describe what each supplier publishes; we have not visited offices or verified staffing there. The main table separates published London-area addresses from a London-facing service page. Regional alternatives and the publisher are labelled separately. Inclusion is selective, alphabetical and unscored.
